# Display names

> Change your WhatsApp Business display name and understand Meta review statuses.

Your display name appears in your WhatsApp Business profile and at the top of chat threads.<br />
Because you own the WABA, display name changes are made in Meta WhatsApp Manager and reviewed by Meta.

## Change display name

In [WhatsApp Manager](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/), open **Phone numbers**, select your number, open the **Profile** tab, edit the **Display name**, and submit.<br />
Meta reviews the change.

## Review statuses

Meta reviews display name changes.<br />
Most complete within 24 to 48 hours.

| Status                     | Meaning                                                          |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| submitted                  | Request sent to Meta                                             |
| pending\_review            | Meta is reviewing                                                |
| approved                   | Name approved and active                                         |
| available\_without\_review | Approved instantly (common names)                                |
| deferred                   | Decision postponed, usually approved later with no action needed |
| declined                   | Name rejected, see the reason and edit                           |

### What does "deferred" mean?

Meta defers a decision when extra review is needed.<br />
It usually resolves to approved within a few days with no action on your part.<br />
If it stays deferred for more than a week, contact Meta Business Support.

## Rejection reasons

| Reason                      | Fix                                           |
| --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| NAME\_NOT\_CONSISTENT       | Name must match your website and branding     |
| NAME\_FORMAT\_UNACCEPTABLE  | Remove URLs, emails, or promotional text      |
| NAME\_EMPLOYEE\_ISSUE       | Remove personal names unless tied to branding |
| NAME\_ENDCLIENT\_NOTRELATED | Name must relate to your business             |

## Guidelines

Meta requires display names to:

* Accurately represent your business
* Match your external branding (website, social media)
* Not include "Official", "Verified", or Meta brand names
* Not be generic terms or locations
* Not contain promotional language
